Our Year in Review: 2019

We have seen several changes this year. And like every year there were ups and downs. Overall though, 2019 treated us pretty great!

January-June

Ty started working at BYU’s Salt Lake Center as an IT guy. This led him to look into programs related to the IT world. He applied to the Masters of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) at the University of Utah.

I finished up my Bachelors degree in Business Management at Utah Valley University. This was quite the accomplishment for me and crossed a major goal off my list while also helping me realize many more goals I wanted to add. (to read more about my experience getting my BS see my post Wolverines)

I continued to do eyelash extensions throughout my undergraduate studies.

We were also able to visit Arizona for Hannah’s wedding, and we visited Idaho a few times. We were also fortunate enough to have family visit us on multiple occasions. The big one being when my parents and Camilla, along with Mallorie and Brock with their girls came for my graduation.

July-August

Ty did the most self-less thing and helped me go on a study abroad in England!! I left on July 6 and did not get home until August 19. It was a long five weeks to be apart, however, we grew closer because of it. (to learn about my time there, read my post Cambridge)

Pembroke College: Cambridge, England

We were very hesitant to have Ty come visit for financial reasons, but we ultimately decided that it was an opportunity that we may never get again so we had him come out to visit my last week there. I am so glad that we decided to have him come; I think we would have regretted it if we didn’t. Having Ty in England was SO fun! He flew in on a Friday into London so I met him at the airport and we spent the weekend doing all the touristy things we could in London. Some of our favorite things in London were: the Tower of London, Winston’s War rooms, Westminster Abbey, going to church in Kensington, all the museums, and of course gelato!

Buckingham Palace: London, England

We then spent the rest of the week in Cambridge because I still had classes. While I was in classes Ty just lived the vacation life relaxing and going to museums. When I was not in class we would do more exploring and eating as much gelato as we could!

Ty left Friday then I left Sunday. Getting back to Utah was the weirdest thing ever and it was hard to know what my reality was the first few days back. But England instantly felt like a dream after getting back, and the further away it gets the more it feels like it never actually happened. But it was an amazing experience and one that I will always cherish.

Ty got accepted to the U while I was gone and started his classes the day I got back. We also got approved for student housing while I was gone so I had to jump right into packing when I got back.

September-December

September was a crazy month getting ready to move then actually moving and getting our new place put together. In Orem we were in a two bedroom apartment that also had a storage room. moving to Salt Lake we downsized to a one bedroom with just a storage closet. So we had a lot of downsizing to do. But we did it and we are starting to really enjoy our place in Salt Lake.

In October we adopted the sweetest little bunny and named him Mocha. He is 2 years old and we have loved learning so much about rabbits and forming a bond with him. I also started a job at BYU’s Salt Lake Center and have enjoyed learning new skills from it.

For most of November nothing too notable happened. Ty and I spent our first Thanksgiving just the two of us. It was different, but nice to have some time together. My birthday fell the day after Thanksgiving this year so we spent the day making a cake from scratch. We made a cookies and cream cake that turned out so delicious! (recipe)

December was a busy month for us as it is for most people. We worked a lot during finals week and didn’t see each other much. We chose to stay in Utah for Christmas so we also had our first Christmas just the two of us. I was nervous that it would be really lame and that we would regret not being with family for it. However, it ended up being so nice and fun! From doing a Christmas puzzle, watching a football game, looking at lights, seeing the new Star Wars movie, and eating good food, we had a great Christmas!

We ended the year by spending a week in Arizona with family for New Years. It was fun to see nearly all of our family and get away from the cold and snow for a bit.

We are so grateful for the many blessings we received this year and feel so blessed to have done all that we did. Many of the highlights from our year we had no idea we would have the opportunity to at the beginning of 2019. So as 2020 starts we look forward to it with excitement to see what new adventures we may be able to enjoy and what new goals we’ll be able to cross off our list!
